Hey I was thinking of going to get a used moser 12 bolt from some guy and he said he got.everything professionally build and reshimmed but it still has a whine. It's got 390 gears. Is the whining normal for the 12 bolts or is this something I should stay away from?

Sounds like one of two things: gear now has two wear patterns on it and will have a terrible high pitched whine or differential (limited slip/ posi) is shot also causing a high pitched whine. I'm taking a guess that it does not have a locker or a spool in it. Either way your going to have to put money into getting the moser rebuilt.

This is what he says... moser 12bolt with maybe 2000, detroit true trac diff,3.90 motive gear,30 spline, professionally shimed and wear pattern is perfect but till has a whine, umi rlc brackets, selling with complete brakes, driveshaft that matches yoke, and sphn adjustable lcas. Its a lot of money I'd be spending and don't wanna get some piece of shit rear that'd I'd have to spend more on to rebuild. I appreciate your reply.

my 12 bolt didnt whine much. i think some gears just make noise, nothing you can do about it. the last set of richmonds i did were noisy. pattern was great, and i tried moving it around a few times but it still sounded the same.
if you have a chassis mounted torque arm it will transmit much more noise to the cabin of the car.

Thanks for all of the imput. My radio is very loud and my car is louder haha. My question now is is the rear worth buying? I be buying it for 1800 and paying someone to drive 3 hours to get it. My 10 bolt is holding up and feeling good and I really don't beat on it that much but the power is there and I wanna put some stickys on it. Is the whining something that would effect it. It's a everyday driver and thr most miles I put on it is driving to Charleston on the weekends other than that I live on base and it is a half mile to work

I wish you still had it. I'd take it yesterday. I don't need one yet and their is no issue with mine. It's actually holding up great but I also don't do doughnuts burn outs. If I do spin its when I bring it up to 3000 driving normal in 1st and put my foot to the floor, then it spins top of first then most of second( a4 I still manually shift for fun).
